Frankfurt sees marginal 1Q growth and contraction in March

In the first three months of 2018, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) saw its cargo throughput (airfreight + airmail) rise by 0.7 per cent to 539,610 tonnes in the first quarter of 2018.

Cargo volumes contracted by 1.7 per cent to 201,965 tonnes in the reporting month, due to the early timing of Easter and the impact of the Chinese New Year falling late this year.

Cargo traffic at the Fraport Group’s second largest cargo airport after Frankfurt, Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru jumped 26 per cent in March, year-on-year to 23,275 tonnes and 65,784 tonnes for the first three months, up 8.1 per cent.

Xi’an Airport (XIY) in China registered 21,935 tonnes of cargo for March, up 6.2 per cent on 2017 volumes. For the first three months this year Xi’an uplifted 64,525 tonnes of cargo, up 12 per cent year-on-year.
