Swissport enjoys “excellent” year on the back of a 6.7 per cent rise (10.4 per cent in constant currency terms) in business volume generating EUR 2.99 billion in revenue, compared to the full-year 2017.
The group achieved an operating EBITDA of EUR 273.2 million in 2018, an increase of 24.1 per cent over the previous year’s result of EUR 220.1 million.
The airport ground services business contributed EUR 2.43 billion, up 6.8 percent while cargo handling saw a total revenue amounting to EUR 560 million, up 6.5 per cent, year-on-year. Air cargo volumes increased 2.1 per cent to 4.8 million tonnes handled, up from 4.7 million tonnes a year earlier.
“2018 was an excellent year for Swissport, both from a strategic perspective and from a results point of view,” says Eric Born, Group president & CEO of Swissport International AG.
“We actively realised organic revenue growth above the market and a favourable market environment gave us additional lift. With the strategic acquisition of the Australian ground services company Aerocare in March 2018, we added a growth platform in the Asia-Pacific region, creating the basis for our regional expansion.”
In airport ground services, Swissport performed 2.2 million aircraft turns in 2018, up 5.7 per cent over 2017. The company served 282 million passengers on behalf of its airline clients – 12.5 per cent more than in 2017. At year-end 2018, Swissport was active at 303 airports in 50 countries on six continents.
