The ECS Group has acquired Wexco – one of the leading GSSAs in Australia and New Zealand – as it continues its global growth track.

ECS says the market can continue to count on one of the best GSSA experts in the Australasian region, now supported by the strength of a major air cargo player, particularly in terms of network and digitalisation.

Founded in 1979 in Australia and in 2003 in New Zealand, Wexco has developed long-standing and high-quality partnerships, ECS says. With what it says is widely recognised expertise in the Australasian market, Wexco enjoys an excellent reputation in Australia and New Zealand.

This was a crucial factor in ECS Group’s decision to acquire the GSSA to expand its activities in those countries while ECS Group’s ability to innovate was a key factor for Wexco, according to ECS.

“Wexco is a well-established GSSA with a very good reputation in the Australia and New Zealand market,” says Bertrand Schmoll, chairman of ECS Group. “We were not previously represented in either country and our strategy involves expanding our footprint in the Asia-Pacific region. Wexco is the perfect partner with which to do this, and one of its biggest assets is its unrivalled market expertise,” he adds.

Wexco is equally delighted with the acquisition with Russell Freeman and David Williams, owners of Wexco saying: “ECS Group is the world’s leading and largest global GSSA, not only in terms of its network but also in terms of innovation. ECS Group has digital tools that no other GSSA has developed, allowing it to constantly improve the way in which it meets the needs of its airline and freight forwarder clients.

“Furthermore, ECS Group’s values fit perfectly with our own. It made the decision to join ECS Group a simple one,” they add.
