Peter Gerber, CEO Lufthansa Cargo takes over as CEO of Brussels Airlines and assumes the newly created position of executive VP of the Lufthansa Group in Brussels. Gerber succeeds Dieter Vranckx as CEO of Brussels Airlines.
The management change will see Dorothea von Boxberg, CCO Lufthansa Cargo succeed Gerber as CEO of Lufthansa Cargo and will also become chairwoman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo, with both changes taking effect from 1 March 2021.
Together with Nina Öwerdieck, CFO of Brussels Airlines, and Edi Wolfensberger, COO of the Belgian airline, Gerber will continue to implement the company’s ‘Reboot Plus’ turnaround plan and build a strong, lean and competitive Brussels Airlines, according to the Lufthansa Group.
In addition to managing the Belgian airline, he will also assume the newly created position of Lufthansa Group chief representative for European Affairs in Brussels, thus representing the interests of the entire Lufthansa Group at European level.
Von Boxberg is to become the new CEO and chairwoman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo on 1 March 2021. The 46-year-old thus succeeds Peter Gerber.
The Supervisory Boards still have to approve the proposals. Gerber’s appointment to the Lufthansa subsidiary Brussels Airlines is part of the Group-wide rotation policy for management positions.
“I would like to thank Peter Gerber for his outstanding achievements as CEO for Lufthansa Cargo,” says Harry Hohmeister, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Lufthansa Cargo. “As a passionate airline manager, he has very successfully managed the highly demanding and volatile logistics business and, together with a motivated and committed team, has played a major role in shaping the Group’s cargo division in recent years.
“With Dorothea von Boxberg, an experienced manager from within the company is taking over the helm of Lufthansa Cargo. She is not only a sales professional, she also has a great deal of expertise, for example in product development. With her creativity and commitment, she will continue to develop Lufthansa Cargo AG successfully in these extraordinary times.”
Gerber began his career with the Lufthansa Group in 1992, during which time he held various management positions in the Lufthansa Group. In June 2009, Gerber was appointed to the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo with responsibility for Finance and Human Resources. In June 2012 Gerber joined the Executive Board of Lufthansa Passage Airlines and was responsible for Human Resources, IT & Services. He has been chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo since May 2014.
Dorothea von Boxberg studied Industrial Engineering and Management at TU Berlin and ESCP/EAP Paris.
